Sophia is a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics. It was activated on February 14, 2016, and made its first public appearance in mid-March 2016 at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, United States.
Sophia is designed to look and behave like a human. She has a realistic face with expressive eyes and mouth, and she can move her head, neck, and arms. She can also speak and understand human language.
